Cabana Design – Rancho Santa Fe, CA: A modern Mediterranean retreat that extends the villa’s architecture into the landscape.
Located in the exclusive Covenant community of Rancho Santa Fe, this project involved designing a new outdoor cabana for a Mediterranean-style villa on Via De Fortuna. The goal was to extend the home’s luxurious outdoor experience by creating a shaded retreat that blends seamlessly with the architecture and landscape — offering comfort, functionality, and timeless beauty under the Southern California sun.

The villa’s original design embodies the warmth of Mediterranean architecture — stucco walls, clay tile roofing, and soft arches — set within a lush, resort-like property.
The cabana addition was envisioned as a natural extension of this language, reinterpreted through a refined, modern Mediterranean sensibility.

The cabana addition was envisioned as a natural extension of this language, reinterpreted through a refined, modern Mediterranean sensibility.
Key ideas guiding the design:
Architectural Harmony: The new cabana reflects the villa’s materials and proportions — white stucco finish, terracotta tones, and timber detailing — ensuring visual continuity between structures.
Indoor–Outdoor Connection: Large openings and a flowing layout dissolve boundaries between the interior lounge and pool terrace, framing views toward the landscape and enhancing natural light.
Comfort & Shade: A deep pergola roofline and shaded living area ideal for relaxation and entertaining, while maintaining openness to the garden.
Material Warmth: Natural textures such as travertine flooring, warm wood, and neutral fabrics create a calm, inviting palette that complements the villa’s elegance.
Contemporary Refinement: Subtle, clean lines and simplified detailing modernize the traditional Mediterranean expression, giving the space a timeless yet updated character.
