IIT MANDI - Faculty & Staff Housing
Designing sustainable hillside living for a world-class academic campus.
Designing sustainable hillside living for a world-class academic campus.
Located in the Kamand Valley of Himachal Pradesh, IIT Mandi is a high-altitude campus nestled along the Uhl River. The project for Land Parcel 4 focuses on creating residential housing for the institute’s faculty and staff — a vital part of the larger master plan that also includes academic blocks, hostels, and dining facilities.
The design aims to establish a sustainable, comfortable, and community-oriented living environment that harmonizes with the mountainous terrain and the natural beauty of the site.

Sustainability & Design Efficiency
The housing design targets a GRIHA 4-Star rating, implementing several green strategies:
Passive solar design and optimal window-wall ratio (0.3 – 0.4)
Solar water heating & energy-efficient lighting
Rainwater harvesting and low-flow plumbing fixtures
Bicycle & pedestrian circulation to reduce paved surfaces
Use of regional vegetation to control erosion and maintain biodiversity
